Here's what my landing gear looks like with the Cessna 206 rubber brake line fairing. Although not original, it does make for a nice installation.

Re: L.E.D. Navigation/Strobes/Interior Lights
Has anyone determined which LED lights would be a suitable replacement for a Grimes rotating beacon?

Re: Paint scheme???
Kyle, I agree with the other posts that some schemes just don't look right on a 170. Saying that our 170 has a non traditional paint scheme that I really like. I would recommend a couple websites that have hundreds of photos of Cessna 170's from around the world. These will provide you with a full s...

Re: Early 170 Gear Legs
I have thought of the same thing, going to 180 gear legs. My A&P discovered a shim under a one of my gear legs during my 1st annual this year after buying my 170A last year at this time. This repair was made 30 years ago and obviously has been fine. In the intrest of doing it right, I am in the...

Re: Tail Pull Handles
I have installed these on my aircraft. If you plan properly you will spend very little time in the tailcone. I'm average size (5'11" and 190 lbs) and I didn't have any trouble bucking the rivets or drilling the pilot holes. If you follow the directions the whole installation shouldn't take a mo...

Re: Speed
I agree and enjoy taking my time when traveling with my family in our 170. I think it's important to keep it fun when traveling with kids or passengers. Saying that.... I do enjoy the challenge of moving a light aircraft across the country in a timely manor. I fly a jet for a living so I really cher...

Re: Landing the '48
Any instructor that advocates one specific type of landing over another is a novice and you would be advised to look elsewhere for training. Since this discussion has drifted a bit from 170 specific advice to general tailwheel instruction.... I would like to add some additional information that may...

Re: 185 Gear legs for C170A (Moved from MX Library)
Try running the CG numbers backwards. Moving the main gear axles 3 3/4" forward doesn't make that much difference. I used axle forward gear legs on my airplane when I installed the heavier IO-360 engine and CS prop. My experience is that axle forward gear will add a significant amount of weigh...

Re: 185 Gear legs for C170A (Moved from MX Library)
Ray, Here’s the short answer. Yes, they will fit. I would agree with the other posts that the 185 gear would not be my first choice for a 170. In addition to being heavier than necessary (5-7 lbs additional weight per leg), the axles would be moved a couple inches forward which would place additio...

A model flap return springs
Does anyone have a source for the flap return springs for an A model. I found mine worn where it attaches to the flap horn.

Re: Do any aircraft use metric parts?
I owned a Sukhoi for a few years before I had kids. It used all metric hardware, hoses, tires, and instruments (airspeed KPH, Altimerter read in meters, MP was displayed in mm of mercury, and the compass had a crazy looking H for south and a C for north). Replacment parts are available, just not whe...
