TX C170 Fly-in September 25th, 2021, Cedar Mills 3T0

We had beautiful weather, for our revised location September Fly-in at Cedar Mills. Five of us (Dave Bengtson, Dooley Rucker, Karl, Nancy & Krystal Towle) arrived by car, and 3 C170s for a great lunch and a nice time visiting at Pelican's Landing Restaurant.

Re: Left the master on...

Don't know if this issue has been remedied yet, but the really obvious solution is to simply disconnect the Hobbs meter, noting how much extra time it is showing. Then, fly the airplane, with a large note posted by the tachometer listing the tach time when the Hobbs must be RECONNECTED so it will be...

Re: windshield

Some belated comments on installing the LP windows with the locking strip at the top. The nice thing about this install is that it mimics the way Cessna started installing windshield's on later model 172s and the like, and it doesn't involve drilling through the Plexiglas with the associated concern...

Craftsman hand-tool warranty

I'm sure most of us have at least a few Craftsman hand-tools in our collections. Lowes is selling these tools, and although there are reports of some stores turning people away if they didn't buy the tool from Lowes, here is the official Lowes statement on this: FULL STATEMENT FROM LOWE'S CORPORATE ...

Re: 175 Wing Fuel Capacity on 170?

Digital fuel level sensing turns out to be a wonderful thing. I ended up with CiES CC2840220620 lifetime guaranteed fuel senders, and a single Aerospace Logic FL202D gauge. Carefully following the calibration process ensures the gauges are accurate throughout their entire range. The conversion was a...

Re: 175 Wing Fuel Capacity on 170?

Alaskan9974, were you able to finalize your paperwork and call your wing-swap complete? I did the same swap back in 2014. Chris at Del Air in Porterville, Calif. was very helpful in obtaining a field approval for my project. Just to add some data to the discussion on unusable fuel, here are some num...

Re: TX C170 Fly-in June 5th, 2021, Cedar Mills 3T0

The rain paused just long enough for one C-170 and 3 vehicles to make it in to Cedar Mills for a leisurely lunch and friendly visit. Six of us: Bob Jolley, Paul & Deborah Wood, Karl, Nancy & Krystal Towle, plus canines Miya and Kota. Pelican's landing treated us very well, and everyone had a...

Re: Rosen Sunvisors

I neglected to post pictures of my installation. I took the approach of mounting from the stock single #10 nut-plate. I started out by fabricating two bushings that would just fit in one of the lightning holes in the Rosen bracket, but with the hole for the #10 cap screw off center like this: RosenB...

Re: Securing rudder when tied down outside

I thought some may be interested in a solution I came up with. Maybe someone can improve upon it. Here's the picture: 20210328_155707[1].jpg Specs: 1) Locks both rudder and elevator, at their trailing edges, while also cradling the aft 10" of each surface at a rib. 2) Eliminates stresses on con...

Re: TX C170 Fly-in, March 20th, 2021, Bar VK, TX32, Sanger

Blessed with spectacularly perfect weather, nine aircraft descended into the Bar VK Air Ranch and parked in our back yard for a fantastic fly-in today (A 10th arrived, sadly, after we'd left for the restaurant.) In all, 24 of us enjoyed the great cuisine at Babe's Chicken House restaurant in Sanger....

TX C170 Fly-in, March 20th, 2021, Bar VK, TX32, Sanger

We're 10 miles north of Denton, with 2900 ft of nice turf runway. We'll meet at Karl and Nancy's home at 11:00 am, to shuttle about ...

Re: ****Alert**** - F+M Oil filter adapter gasket fail

At the urging of a friend who experienced an oil starvation event caused by the issue with this filter, I'm posting some additional information. In his case, he almost lost his Swift, with he and his son aboard. In his words, he was 90 seconds away from being in a situation where he couldn't have pu...

Re: Rear window replacement

New reply to old thread. Given the youngest of our 170s is 64 years old, and the rubber seal around the window "glass" may be original, I seriously question the advisability of using the original seal. Has anyone else noticed over the years, that the majority of repairs we accomplish, have...
