Re: Carbon Fiber Cowl for Cessna170
Could you please give an example of a $2500 option or modification which increases value by $12,000 to $20,000? I don't believe I am familiar with this concept. I do lead a relatively boring life though. I think he mean't a $12,000 or $20,000 modification that increases value by $2,500. I have a fe...

Re: Carbon Fiber Cowl for Cessna170
I think the carbon cub crowd is shaped differently than the person who would buy a 170. 170 folks dont seem to worry about a few extra pounds here and there while the carbon cub guys are real weight weenies (name taken from bicycle crowds) and will pay a lot to save a little. I wonder how much weigh...

They look like for grabbing and positioning hoses.

For accuracy sake, mine also has six rivets vs the 4 I mistakenly stated earlier.
Also the bolt goes thru the seat rail vs the seat belt bracket.

Re: Carbon Fiber Cowel for Cessna170
Would CF be any lighter or resist cracking? I have a CF extended baggage from AirGlas that is lighter than any other extended baggage at 5 pounds. Re-thinking the cowl without the limitations of sheet metal would probably get more speed without sacrificing cooling but the shape of the cowl makes a 1...

Talk to your IA about replacing the tubes with stainless.
It's not as strong but more than sufficient for the task. And they will never rust again.

Re: Ingress Step Usage
They show up on ebay every once in a while.
Salvage yards should have them too.
If you have one to copy, it would be simple to duplicate as an owner made part and have someone local weld it up.

Do you need those? I have two fairly beat up ones that I'm about to duplicate.
I could send you the old ones to template or use (hail damaged)

Re: Moulding p.n. 0411875
I have no idea what that moulding is but,
Cessna Direct shows it's been superseded by R581462 and sells for $1.37. I'm guessing that's per foot (at least). Knowing Cessna, it's per inch.

Re: Ingress Step Usage
60 plus year old steel tubing with a 90 degree step welded on...It's always amazed me that more of these steps aren't breaking. The crazy part is that it's supported in the airplane by 4 1/8th inch rivets and an an-3 bolt. The bolt is plenty strong and goes thru a seat rail so there is lots of meat ...

Re: LED landing light question??
I had two new GE4509s installed at the last annual. Two months and less than 25 hours later, one is already burned out (I usually turn them on in the airport area). I do little to no night flying, so for me, I think that even if the LEDs don't light up the world like an incandescent, they would be ...

Re: Hanlon Wilson
You could just by a 2" flange and 3" flange from Spruce and rivet them together to make an adaptor to step the hose down..
That will save you from modifying the plane or exhaust.

Re: Axle replacement thoughts
How does one identify the hollow aluminum axles vs the solid? Do you visually see a "hollow"? Are there visible part numbers stamped? log book entry barely mentions install of Cleveland kit swapping orig Goodyear cross wind , no mention of axles. If you have wheel pants, you need to remov...

Re: Carbon fiber wheel pants
I normally saw 3 or 4 MPH difference when I took the wheel pants off vs on while using 600 tires. I never ran any other tire size to know how much worse 8:50s or 8:00s are vs 6:00s I don't know if anything is going to really affect the 120mph cruise number of a 170. If you installed every speed mod ...

Re: Bottom Up Brake Bleeding
I used one of these http://www.homedepot.com/p/RL-Flo-Maste ... /100164531
and a length of tubing.
I had to modify the tip to remove the sprayer and fit the tubing but it worked great.
