Re: ****Alert**** - F+M Oil filter adapter gasket fail

From the MX Library - Service Alerts. As stated above it requires using two cooper gaskets and NO fiber gasket.

El Reno, F&M, Tempest Oil Filter Adaptor

I ran across an article on the El Reno, F&M, Tempest Oil Filter Adaptor from the NTSB about loss of oil resulting in engine failure on adaptors with the fiber gaskets. I then found this document from Stratus Tools Technologies (manufacture or the adaptors) that tells you to replace the fiber gas...

I have been looking for those as well, or something that will replace them for a while with no luck.

Re: Call Signs

From the Airmans Information Manual: Contact Procedures Initial Contact. The terms initial contact or initial callup means the first radio call you make to a given facility or the first call to a different controller or FSS specialist within a facility. Use the following format: Name of the facility...

This is the SD card with the new software already loaded, just swap out your old SD card and power it up.

Good post George, has anyone ever got approval or STC to reroute the fuel lines to eliminate the pump and check valve?

Re: Surefly mags

I roll my eyes a bit when I hear or read anecdotes from someone who has installed the latest gizmo on their airplane and claim “more horsepower”, etc. To be fair to Surefly, they make no claims of increased horsepower, their main marketing point is the low maintenance and longer service life than a...

Re: Surefly mags

The guy across the taxiway installed a Surefly SIM on his Grumman recently, with the variable timing option. Early reports talk about easier starts and more power. I'm pretty confident the "more power" claim is anecdotal, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was in fact true. The kicker was ...

Re: Rear Pax Headset Jack Locations

I also have mine mounted on the hat shelf. I find this keeps the headsets and cords out of the way when rear passengers or getting in or out of the plane. Unlike Miles I mounted mine under the shelf.

Re: ADS-B IN

I've been using a Stratux ADS-B in (not Stratus) which is a home brew system and its been working like a charm for several years now. It is a little clunkier then other units but you get Status 2S features for the price of a Scout.

Re: New to me 170B

If you are in Canada I don't think they will support Universal Access Transceivers (UAT) which is what the SkyBeacons use. Last I heard Canada was only going to support 1090 Mhz units.

Re: Starter Replacement

Overhaul is a good time to change to a lightweight starter, as the pinion shaft for the pull starter needs to be cut off its base, and that is best done off the engine. When I did mine in 2006 I went with the more expensive B&C because at the time the SkyTec was having some reliability problems...

In fact, the second SNL you posted implies that “all service information” previously published was “approved” which might include the Owner’s Manual service information. Certainly the information is the SAME info... therefore it could be said to be “approved”. Hmm...gotta go with Gary on this one, ...
