Arkansas Back Country Flying

Post by juredd1 »

Folks,

I should have passed this info along several months ago. If it has already been posted here I apologize.

Arkansas backcountry flying has picked up a lot over the past couple years and here are a couple links you might find interesting.

https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all ... and-wheels
https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all ... ona-issues
https://airfield.guide

You can search for ralfday and reddell in the search field. ralday (uncles place) is where my plane is hangered and reddell is my field on the farm.

Thanks,
Justin

Justin, I can't remember, have you found a 170 yet?
Some of those back country strips look like fun places to go to.

Frank,

I will likely get some disappointing looks but I have found a plane but it's not a 170. I ended up with a 48 Aeronca Sedan. Different and a fair bit slower with a small learning curve with no flaps but right now I'm loving just being back in the air. I miss the flaps on landing but for any required go around the no flaps are nice.

FYI....I am still supporting the 170 Association. :)

The strips are great, lots and lots of grass strips in NW Arkansas.

Hey Justin, that Sedan sounds like a cool plane. Haven't seen a whole lot of them over the years. Your welcome to bring it to any and all 170 or non 170 events. I would like to see it sometime. Main thing is you are flying!! Thanks for the reply and some photos of your plane would be nice.

Frank,

Thanks for the kind offer to let me bring my Sedan to the 170 events. I didn't figure I would get booted out as long as I was supporting. You all are a great group of guys and I miss getting to associate with you at the conventions. The Cody one will be very difficult to pass up on as I so love Wyoming and the surrounding states, but we have to many other obligations this summer. As hard as it was for me to convince the wife I needed to attend the conventions because I owned a 170...You can understand how now it's even more of a challenge.

I tossed a few pictures on here of the new bird.

Justin,
Very nice Sedan, great finish, like the carbon fiber instrument panel.

That is a sharp looking plane Justin! I'll bet its fun to fly. We need to have some kind of 170 lunch flyin in the Memphis area one of these days and you can come show it off. Thanks for the nice photos.

I apologize for my lack of responses...Just a busy weekend for me and never got a chance to reply.

Thanks for the very kind remarks everyone.

John,

When I first seen that panel I wasn't really sure what I had. I liked the look but it finally dawned on me what material that was.

Jim,

Thank ya sir. I'd love to be able to catch up with you somewhere. The Continental in the 170 had been good to me so why not try another one. Since I still have the one off the 170 as well, might need some extra parts at some point.

George,

I could be wrong but I get this feeling that was hard for you to say. :) Don't ask me what radio's it has in it. I might fail your test again.

Frank,

It is a nice looking plane, it has it's flaws when you get up close. Someone has been rough on the wingtips but over all I think it's a beautiful airplane. I am very much enjoying it. Please let me know if you every get something like that scheduled I sure would do my best to show up.

Richard,

Thank you very much. According to the guy that had it before the seller he found it in a barn around 2006, had been there for some 20+ years. He had this thing painted 3 times in 10 years...I must say I like the last one better than the previous two.

Thanks and wish you smooth air and safe flying,
Justin
