175 wings on 170/172

Post by djsvagabond »

Hello all.
Would anyone have documentation supporting 175 wings that I could use to get a field approval for our 172?

175 WINGS ON 170/172

My 170A has L-19 wings installed. The basis for approval was a letter from Cessna outlining what wings could be used as replacements.

Basically any wing the same size and airfoil as original with the same type fuel system and flap system installed, from an aircraft with the same gross weight or higher can be used

I don't have the contact at Cessna with me but I can get it if you'd like. In correspondence with the gentalman at Cessna he stated that the normal procedure was to find the replacement wings, give him the part number and he would then issue a letter to be used for approval.

This didn't happen in the case of my airplane as the wings had been installed and been flying for probably more that 45 years. Cessna's generic discription letter was good for the FSDO for approval.
