Wheel Bearings

Post by MoonlightVFR »

I hear noise when slowly rotating right wheel on C170B w Cleveland wheels brakes.

It is bearing noise.

What is the Temkon replacement P. N.?

Years ago I heard that Oldsmobile had identical wheel bearing.

Assuming need to take wheel to shop with Press to remove bearing outer race.

To remove the race you should only need a good small punch and careful time to tap it out. Those bearings are a popular number.

HEADS UP !!!!

The illustrated parts catalog will MISLEAD you if you don't have the original Goodyear wheels. You (and most of us) have Cleveland wheels. The CUP is different than the original. (for the complete story, see this post : http://cessna170.org/forums/viewtopic.p ... ing#p68261 )

The CORRECT PART NUMBERS for Cleveland wheel bearings:

CUP: Timken 13836

Cone (rollers) Timken 13889.

Use any good automotive bearing grease. (Approved per the Service Manual)

Hope this helps.

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)
