exhaust Pipe Extensions

Post by frfsgpo1 »

Another new question on a new topic, looking for advice. Looking at extending exhaust pipe for various reasons. Found PN E-555-000 exhaust pipe extension. Has anybody used this part? How is it attached to existing exhaust pipe. I am thinking there is a specific exhaust clamp that is used.

If you click on the link for p/n E-555-000 in Wag Aero's Catalog you will find that part no longer available. It's listed as a replacement for the tailpipe extension on the C-172B or later.

Their E-420-000 exhaust extension is the correct part for the 170. They say it's 2" longer than the original. If you're looking for longer fangs you might try AWI's a10172-013-2 12.375" extended tailpipes. Because they don't have a bend in them like the original tailpipes I doubt they would match the exit holes in your lower cowl. The extensions are mounted with clamps on the original exhaust system as you can see from the IPC.

If your objective is to reduce exhaust stains on the lower cowl I'd recommend purchasing the STC'ed Bartone/Mueller Pipes which exit by the firewall
