Extended baggage and baggage mounted battery

Post by Vertical »

Does anyone know of any precedent for having either the Atlee or Airglass extended baggage and also the DelAir (or other) baggage mounted battery installed? I could certainly see some ways to make modifications to allow it, just not sure if it could be done legally.

I am in the same boat, e mailed the install instructions of the Airglas extended baggage to my mechanic to see if it could be modify and make it a minor alteration.
The Airglas floor has a doubler, I assume to be able to withstand weight, that is the key part.
I post here whatever he says.

Oh...Whoops. Just saw your other thread. You beat me to it.

You might ask him about the Atlee Dodge baggage as well. The Airglass looks nicer, but there are some structural differences that may or may not provide different opportunities for modification.

Can you send me a link for the Atlee Dodge extended baggage?
I cannot find it.

Man, I’m off again... the Selkirk is the one I was thinking of. It looks like they make these for lots of different airframes. Judging by the photos, they might have already solved the battery question, just maybe not on the 170.

Interested in this too. I have seen both and the Airglass extended baggage is much nicer, stiffer floor.

Not too keen on a rear mounted battery though, all that cable does nothing for me. I may well change my tune when I get a CG for my conversion with a heavy prop:)

I will go on record strongly recommending moving to a firewall mounted, F-Atley Gel Battery. Bringing the battery close to the starter and the heat of the eng compartment both make for much stronger starts.
