Nose Bowl Replacement

Post by Poncho73 »

I finally started on repairing my 48 cowl. I’m currently concentrating on the nose bowl. Today I removed the nose bowl and subsequently discovered I need left and right angle rub strips p/n 0552000-9 and -10. Does anyone have a lead on where to get them. The originals were spot welded in place, my strips are not salvageable.

You are very likely going to find it easier/simpler to make them yourself.... but Textron (Cessna) and AeroVal claim to have them available...IF you request a “quote”. Good luck with that.

Kind of expected that response...... anyone have a pre 52 lower cowl?

Moving along today I riveted the bowl to the main lower cowl skin. I will post the pics tomorrow. I was so busy I didn’t take pics today. Here are some of the pre-riveting cowl

So tomorrow’s plan is to paint strip the grill vents and install then. Then install the winter front doubler and anchor nuts. Then continue work on the air inlet.....I have some mods that I’m considering.....certified of course. Also, every cowl screw fastener, previously tinnermans will be replaced with floating 10/32 anchor nuts and SS screws. Plenty of work but a worthy enhancement.

Great-looking work! Thanks for the pics.

Is that a replacement Cessna nosebowl or did you make it yourself?

The new nose bowl is an NOS part. Keep in mind it is only a shell. There are no doublers/frames/stiffeners. You need to build them, or salvage from the old nose bowl. My nose bowl was beyond repair or salvage so I had to get creative and manufactured the frames. Moving forward, today I completed stripping the the grills and prepping them for install. A rivet squeezer is the best tool for this job. I also reinstalled the anchor nuts for the winter fronts. Couple of pics from today...the cowl is framed up and fits well. Tomorrow I’m working on the intake. As I said I have a plan for something new rather then the original cumbersome air scoop. Cheers all

Carbon fibre ? My aluminum has a few cracks, stop drilled but unsightly, might have to go that route.
