I was under the impression that an IFR GPS could be substituted for DME? I am thinking of going with the GNC 355 and a G5, GI 275, or AV-30, and getting rid of my King DME. I plan on keeping my KX 155 for ILS and second comm capability.

Correct, but I don’t have the gps yet. Was thinking DME only would get me going.

Sorry; I (mis)read your post to mean you were going to add a DME in addition to a GPS.

Firgured I would post an update of what I ended up doing, decided to keep it VFR and went with a garmin Aera 660 with air gizmo mount, GTX 335, GTR 225, and removed the piano keys and fuses and replaces with CB’s and toggles as well as a landing light controller to change between flashing and solid landing/ taxi light

LOL...

I wonder if in-fact, it’s a TacTaire type autopilot course-selector which was placarded for a Piper installation. I had a similar one in my Baron.

If you like it....and if it needs repair anyway because it’s “slow”.... you might send it to repair and have them “re-placard” it without the “Piper” or change it to whatever you wish. It’s kinda-kool... IMO.
