Hi all,
The plunger assembly under my Delco starter seems to be leaking. My mechanic said I need a new seal, however, we can't find it in the parts book.
Does anyone know a part number, have information, or know where I can find this? It's pissing oil all over my engine compartment.

Best of luck. I chased my leak for several weeks.

National Seal Part number: 6324-S
The OEM part is a Delco-Remy sea PN 1910379l, available from Fresno Air Parts for $5.79 (shipping will likely be more than that): https://www.fresnoairpartsco.com/produc ... er-clutch/
Meanwhile, you might wish to visit the Mx Library and read Dave Sburs’ article on replacing that seal: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=14320

Re: Leaking Starter/Plunger Seal?
That leak was the main reason I switched to a lightweight starter. With wear on the plunger, even a new seal didn’t help.

Re: Leaking Starter/Plunger Seal?
Getting ready for the flight to Vermont Convention next month I’ve decided to reduce the oil leak on my accy case and firewall…. so I’ve ordered the seal and gasket for the pull-clutch from Fresno Airparts.
1910379 Seal, Delco Remy Starter Clutch $5.75 (This is the pinion-shaft seal)
1867150 Seal, Delco Remy Starter Shaft $5.75 (This prevents oil from getting inside the starter motor, not required but, hey…you’re in there)
352179 – 652172 – 653673 Gasket, Starter $1.75 (This is the gasket for the clutch housing-to-accy case.)
Priority Mail 10.00
Removal and Inspection of the clutch and gear teeth is a REQUIRED ICA (instructions for continued airworthiness) by the Niagara Air Parts Pull Clutch, according to them, each ANNUAL INSPECTION.
If you do this, you may as well replace that oil seal and gasket while you’re in there.
Hope this helps.

Re: Leaking Starter/Plunger Seal?
I just replaced these seals and gaskets on my starter a couple months ago during my annual inspection. I also got the parts from Fresno Air Parts. I ended up having the counter bore for the seal on the spur gear machined slightly deeper to have it sit correctly. This is per the articles found in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=14320
