AV-30c
Has anyone installed the uAvionix AV-30C? I want this thing but already have questions. Where did you put the OAT probe? Any suggestions when fabricating the wiring harness? Where did you put the new circuit breaker?
Re: AV-30c
They put my OAT probe under right wing, about a foot inboard of the lift strut. Said that Garmin says it must be at least 1’ outside of prop wash.

I guess that would be anywhere aft of the main gear..??IA DPE wrote:They put my OAT probe under right wing, about a foot inboard of the lift strut. Said that Garmin says it must be at least 1’ outside of prop wash.
Mounting it to an inspection cover would be a good idea, IMO.

Re: AV-30c
I have installed two AV-30’s . The temp probe was put about 2 1/2 ft outboard of fuselage on left wing on an inspection plate. If I remember correctly the installation manual said it should be at 2 ft out from fuselage but don’t quote me on that.
Tried to attach some photos but it said the file was to large and restricted to 1mb

Re: AV-30c
I’ve installed two of these in my planes, it’s a great addition to the plane. Only problems I have had has been precession of DG, the manufacturer recently provided a software update to fix that. I did not add the OAT probe. Wiring the harness was pretty straightforward, I ordered mil spec wiring from Aircraft Spruce.
Re: AV-30c
I had been wondering where to mount the temp sensor, and saw this one at convention. I think its’s 170taildraggers. Looked like a great spot as it’s above the lift strut and you’d have to try real hard to hit your head on it. When we started the install I was planning to use the location in the first pic, but surprise surprise I don’t have an inspection hole there, so we mounted it in the flap well.
Re: AV-30c
That’s a very innovative solution, Paul! I like it!

Amazing! that is so clever, it just goes to show you none of us is as smart as all or us.

Paul…. have you found the software you’ll need to resolve the air-density for determining how effective your semi-fowler-flap-deployments will be for the existing temperature..??
Seriously, that flap-well location is likeable…. the probe is completely out of the sun avoiding a false reading.

Re: AV-30c
Hot tip for anybody installing an AV-30-C: The installation manual tells you to leave pins 8 and 15 unconnected (MFG serial in and out). The service bulletin for upgrading to software version 2.1.2 directs you to wire a female DB9 connector to those pins. Even if your unit comes with the latest software version, there will inevitably be more updates in the future. You will save yourself some hassle down the road if you or your avionics shop install the DB9 connector during the initial install and route it somewhere readily accessible.
