R/H Elevator for a 1951 A model

Post by pkissel »

Hi Everyone
I am new here but am looking for a R/H Elevator for a 1951 C170A. I have contacted a few salvage places so far with no luck.

Hopeful someone on here may have one or know where to point me.

Thanks!

That is the incorrect part-number (it’s for a C-195, PN 0334100/0334100-7) …..the 170A requires a 034100-2. (The difference may be small but there is a difference.)

I am looking at one off of a 1948 170A - my understanding is that the original 170s are the same as the A model. Is this true?
Has some hail damage and probably needs a trim tab but it may be the ticket - seems not many out there.

Thanks

I urge you to obtain a copy of the Illustrated Parts Catalog for your airplane. The PN you need is 0334100-2, which is used on both the 170 and the 170A.
(so the answer is “Yes” they are the same.)

Good luck! (and JOIN the Int’l Cessna 170 Assoc’n and you can list your items wanted and for-sale in the TradeMart where this thread should have originally been posted…

In general terms the 48 and all A models have the same unbalanced horizontal stabilizer and elevator. I've not studied the IPC but you might find that the part number after the - changed over the years. This was done when a minor change was made, usually in how how the part or assembly was produced.

Hi Gary

Thanks it looks like a few to choose from there....
I do a search for him and his company etc but both numbers I have found are disconnected...Do you have a name of his company or anything that might get me closer?

Thanks

That email for Robert Brown did work - I did not get a phone number for him.
Wow he sent me a photo album... he has a TON of parts for C170s

He did have a R/H elevator but had issues - corrosion being the main concern. Did also have a L/H elevator NOS in a crate. B model elevators etc...

I ended up going with a part from Dawson Aircraft - great to deal with - shipping cost from Arkansas to Michigan hurt!

Sutton Salvage in Alaska had one as well but it was pretty beat up and would need a reskin for sure.

Again thanks for the help!
