Installing Bendix SC Magnetos

Post by Kevin Pearce »

I have had to replace my Bendix long cover mags with short cover exchange units.
I have read that this has the P-lead capacitor built in and a ring connector attaches the inner P-lead to this. The firewall mounted capacitor needs to be removed.
Does anyone know where to attach the P- lead shield at the magneto?

Kevin,
Your question brought to mind this picture I have in my files. Is this what you’re looking for? See note regarding shielded wire at bottom of picture.

Thanks Gary,
The Short cover magneto is the one where the capacitor is built into the cover, and the P-lead connects onto its threaded stud. I am looking at where the outer shielding connects? My existing capacitor is fitted onto the firewall and the shielding attaches to the capacitor fixing screw.
So I am thinking that I will connect the shielding to the screw that the capacitor on your drawing attaches to.
I will also ask the mag shop today.

I have heard from the magneto shop and they advise attaching the shield to one of the four cover screws.
