Engine mount C145/Franklin 165
Does anyone know if it’s a different engine mount between a Franklin 165 and a C-145?

Based on these BAS photos of a Stinson mount it looks quite different -- no "ears" on the horizontal tubes like on the C-145 mount.

Mostly out of curiosity, I’m wondering what it would take to swap out a continental for the Franklin 165. I thought it was a factory option way back on these planes but a closer look at the TCDS seems to point to it being approved as an aftermarket change. Any way to find out for sure and maybe obtain the necessary papers/designs/parts?

Sure does look different. Haven’t seen a Franklin up close yet in person.n2582d wrote:Based on these BAS photos of a Stinson mount it looks quite different -- no "ears" on the horizontal tubes like on the C-145 mount.

Before you go too far down that road you might want to look into support for a Franklin engine beyond starters and carburetors. Claims of a plethora of parts and support are largely myth.

Most definitely a concern. Primarily curious about it. I’ve seen relatively few but know they’re out there.GAHorn wrote:Before you go too far down that road you might want to look into support for a Franklin engine beyond starters and carburetors.
