Door handle pic please
My IA wants to see a pic of the original internal door handle (170B) If anyone has an original on their plane and can post a pic, I would appreciate it. Mine is missing the internal and external plates which protect the fabric but for some reason, he wants to see what the original looks like.

Before you go too far down this road…read the following thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=15087&p=140763&hil ... le#p1407631moretw wrote:My IA wants to see a pic of the original internal door handle (170B) If anyone has an original on their plane and can post a pic, I would appreciate it. Here’s the pics and links which I believe will satisfy your A&P (note that the above link discusses a change made beginning with the ‘54 year model)
Basically, early 1940’s Chevy handles and escutcheons were used by Cessna… later they apparently changed to ‘53 Mercury handles with different clip-groove..
Here are the early Chevy types(fit up thru ‘53 B-models): https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail/89 ... _4048.html

For the later Mercury style handles, you might try:

Re: Door handle pic please
What year model 170B? The pictures George showed you are for '53 and prior and will not properly fit in '54 as the position of the c clip is different on the splined shaft. '54 and later use a Ford Mercury door handle, which is not reproduced. The EarlyFordStore at the link George offered, does not show a handle that matches what is found in Cessnas but their offering may still work. See this thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=13473&hilit=mercury
If you have and '54 or later and you need a door handle, and want a Mercury door handle to match your others, I may still have a example with good splines available.

Wow!!! That was interesting. My 170B, serial 20826 and is a 1952. And to think, I actually have a 1946 Chevy pickup in my barn, just waiting to be restored. I think I will look at the handles in the morning. Thank again. MK
