Cleveland or ABI wheels/brakes upgrade?

Post by BrianW »

My 170B still has the original Goodyear crosswind gear.

Looks like to upgrade these, and put on an 800-6 tire. Looks like I need to order these parts:

CLEVELAND CONV KIT # 199-62. (or ABI -- Magnesium vs aluminum ? )
Atlee Dodge/Cleveland Wheel and Brake STC
2 AIRFORMS CESSNA REPLACEMENT AXLE AF1441003-1
BOLT DRILLED AN6-23
BOLT DRILLED AN5-23
Nuts for above bolts
2 MICHELIN TUBE 7.00-6/8.00-6 STRAIGHT STEM
2 AIRHAWK 800-6 4 PLY

The ABI kit is less money, but out of stock. Is aluminum or magnesium preferred?
Am I missing anything? The brake line will have to be dealt with, not sure what to order there yet for fittings/hose.

Brian,
Magnesium will be lighter, Aluminum more corrosion resistant. I'd go with aluminum. Do a search here for axle bolts. NAS bolts are stronger than AN bolts. They also require special washers under the head of the bolt.
