Installing AF 1441003-1 axels

Post by BrianW »

Have a bit of a silly problem trying to install these airforms steel axels.. The install document I have calls for a MS24665-351 cotter pin on the axel nut.

I'm finding that to be way too short and additionally the pin hole on the axels seem really small to where you would have to use a very small diameter cotter pin.. Anyone know what the correct size pin is for this?

This is what the 24665-351 pin looks like in the axel.

I don’t know anything about Airforms axles, but those short cotter pins are called out in the 170 parts catalog. They’ll work; just put one on each side, as you showed. It’s true that the normal way of cottering the axle nut is with one long pin, like an AN380-4-10, also known as MS24665-362, 1/8” x 2.5”. But it’s harder to fit one long one than two short ones because the long ones have to be bent to clear the wheel and fit through the holes in the axle.
