aileron gap seal tape - source

Post by 1moretw »

My 170B has the Horton STC which includes the aileron gap seal. For some reason (we believe during a repaint), the gap seals are missing which is causing my annual to fail since aileron gap seals are part of the STC. The Horton Stol business has been sold and we have been waiting for a few weeks to learn who the new owner is and when the gap seal tape will be available. The STC calls for aluminum parts or "pressure sensitive glass backed tape" to be used as the gap seals. Bummer! If I could find such tape, I could apply some strips and be in compliance. Anyone know of a source or have some of that stuff? I only need 18 feet.

Worth it to give wings and wheels a call. They might not have but will know somewhere I'd bet. https://wingsandwheels.com

I'm not saying it is but you might be surprised to find "pressure sensitive glass backed tape" is nothing more than package tape. I'd be much more interested in knowing how the tape is to be applied than the exact tape they had in mind.

I think Gary is pointing you to another aircraft manufacturer that uses such a tape for gap seals, and there are others.

Not the same tape but Cirrus sheet plastic gap seals are held on with a good grade of double side sticky tape. No special aerospace stuff used here.

Searching for "pressure sensitive glass backed tape" finds these and more:
