Flap Horn Bracket

Post by mcglastonbury9 »

I own a 1948 170. (Ragwing and tiny flaps)

On the most recent annual the mechanic discovered that the flap horn bracket on the right wing is worn beyond safe limits. We've conducted a search for replacement brackets at the usual suspects (Univair, Cessna etc) without finding any parts available. They do show up in the catalog but one quickly discovers that they are not actually in stock. The mechanic seems to think that he'll have to fabricate the part to resolve the issue.

My question is, does anybody have any experience dealing with this particular issue? Are there any parts fabricators that can make the part quickly without breaking the bank? Are there any scrap merchants around who may have these from scrapped planes?

Any suggestions and/or input would be greatly appreciated. Oshkosh is coming up fast!
