This sump/accy-case issue is another reason that rebuilds/overhauls/repair records In Detail…specifying “Off” and “On”…. etc. is so important. I find it so disheartening when I see log entries such as “TSMOH=450 hrs”…and the actual record at that effort shows “new spark plugs, magneto timing set, replaced cylinder assys, standard or oversize bearing, cam and crank miked and meet specs, blah, blah, blah.” No part nos, no serial nos, no 8310s (or 8310s which have no real info), ad nauseum…

In the case of this thread/topic, I have seen early serial number engines with records such as “replaced oil sump” and “installed recertified accy case”…yet no record or indication that those items may have been of a different status than original. Another case of “if it isn’t logged…it didn’t happen”. :|
