WTB Flap Lever for 170B

Postby cessna170bdriver » Wed Sep 09, 2020 8:10 pm

The part number for the whole assembly is 0510166-2. One with a good latch would save me having to transfer mine over, but just the lever itself would be OK. We found a 3/4-inch crack in ours, and previous repairs look like they were welded with a candle.

A-1 Aircraft in Nebraska is parting out a 1956 172. The part # for the flap lever is the same except it’s a -4. Does anyone know the difference?

Miles,
I think later Cessnas with manual flaps had handles with plastic knobs in front. No idea when the switch was made. The -4 here has a metal knob so there goes that theory.

Gary, three out of the four -4 levers on that site have metal buttons. :?

In one of the photos sent by A-1 in Nebraska, the lever looked a bit longer than mine, but that could just be the angle of the photo. He’s supposed to measure it sometime today and get back to me. BTW, that one has a metal button too.

My flap lever has a weld repair, but it looks like they used a better candle.

I sent that photo of our lever to Del and his quote was “uglier than a mud fence”.

Miles, I sent you a PM about this one I’ll trade for a beer next convention. It needs refurbishment but appears structurally sound. (Mechanism is frozen...needs PB-Blaster?). Welds are the prettiest I’ve ever seen on one of these.

Thanks George, but the -4 lever in Nebraska measured out the same as ours, so it's on it's way from Nebraska. If that doesn't work out for some reason we'll take you up the one you have.

The only difference I can find so far is that the more recent one doesn’t have any weld repairs.

Jim, I painted it black. Trying to match the W.H. red in the rest of the interior was a non starter.
