In the early ‘70s, Ranger airfield was virtually an abandoned strip with rusty pre-war hangars... a reporting point on my pipeline-patrol... a nostalgic memory...

Ina and I have been to this fly-in several times and it is always a good time. Lots of folks arrive Friday starting about noon and camp until Sunday. Plenty of food on-location the entire weekend. Rides are provided to the local motels if you don't want to camp but be sure to get reservations before you go. Usually around 100 airplanes show up. One of the best grass runway fly-ins we have been to.

The rusty old hangar is still there and Jared has built a new metal hangar. He is single-handedly keeping the airport alive and needs everyone's support. The local politicians would like to shut it down.

It’s said to be the Third Oldest Airfield in Texas. http://www.angelfire.com/tx/rangerexes/ ... irport.htm

I had several occasions to land at Ranger prior to Jared's taking over the airport. I have been to three of his fly ins and each has been enjoyable. I remember when about half of the floor in the hangar was brick. I don't recall if they were local made bricks or Thurber bricks. At the last fly in I attended Air Tractor brought the only side-by-side, two place Air Tractor plane for display.
