Brenham, TX C-170 Christmas Party

Post by c170ken »

After nearly a year of planning (thank you Sheila Wyborney) the 2022 Texas TIC170A Christmas party kicked off Friday, 9 Dec in Brenham. The weather didn't cooperate very well, as almost every morning that week saw ceilings in the 500 ft or lower range, so nobody chose to fly in, and the thunderstorms Saturday night confirmed that decision. However, that did not diminish the fun and fellowship of our attendees as we met in the lobby of the Hampton Inn and went to dinner Fri evening at Nathan's BBQ. Saturday after breakfast in the hotel, we enjoyed some free time for shopping and visiting; then met for lunch at 'Must be Heaven' in downtown Brenham. After lunch, several of us took a tour of the Brazos Valley Brewing Company, while others visited the Brenham Heritage Museum. Saturday evening found us at Mariachi's for a tasty Mexican dinner, followed by our customary gift exchange back at the hotel. It was great catching up with old friends and a great time was had by all.

Rick (AK) certainly deserved the “Distance Award”…. he not only began his trip from AK….His final leg of the journey was from California to Texas…by MOTORCYCLE!

It was certainly Great to meet the Co-Host of the 1988 Fairbanks Convention!

Buddy and Jean McGown missed (rare event for them) this Christmas party ONLY because Buddy was <edit>(at age 97!) recovering from hospitalization with Covid!

You CANNOT keep that GOOD MAN DOWN! MISSED YOU BUDDY! (and your better-half Jean!). :P

Karen and I visited Buddy and Jeanne McGown on our way home. Buddy had been out of the hospital only a day or two so he was still a bit weak, but with his sense of humor 100% intact he was improving quickly. Buddy celebrates his 98th birthday this coming Tuesday, and I’m sure he’d like hear from old friends in the Association.

For those that may not know, Buddy and Jean both are retired from teaching in Bryan, Tx.

Both are well-respected and deeply loved by their former students many of whom keep in-touch with them.

Buddy is retired from teaching music and the Marching Band and many of his former students have passed thru the ranks of the Texas A&M Marching Band.

Here is the performance that band produced two weeks ago. (keep in mind that Texas A&M has no “official” degree offered in music as they do not have a music degree offered at Bryan. (although they have absorbed a number of smaller colleges throughout Texas that have music programs)

Enjoy this presentation of True Precision Marching:
