Wheel Pant Value

Post by 170C »

I would appreciate some suggestions as to what a pair of C-170 fiberglass wheel pants might be worth. These appear to be in good condition and come with mounting hardware. They are the short, round front style that duplicate the original metal ones. These are not mine and I have yet to physically see them, only a photo of them. Opinions welcome.

I had genuine ones [aluminium] and found them to fill up with mud and sand and were a pain in the you know what. They just didn’t work ,good for looks . On or off they didn’t help my speed or fuel, consumption. A friend of mine in Canada has fibreglass ones that come off a Cessna 206 fitted to his 170b , and his claim they help by amount of 2 knots . I asked him how he came to this conclusion. Quote “it feels faster” yep now let’s open “another bottle of JD’’ . His fibreglass ones are always cracking also. Save your money and weight . Fly naked , your wheels actually.

Frank, doesn't Wag Aero or Univair sell reproduction Cessna fiberglass wheel pants?

Good point Richard. I'll ck. The ones I know about came off a 170 and the owner sold his 170, but didn't include the wheel pants along with the plane. Said they were back in a corner of his hangar and he forgot about them. He has them and wants to sell them so I thought I'd give him some idea of what they might be worth. He wasn't an association member.

Seems like the fiberglass would be subject to cracking and breakage, if I where to get pants (and I won't) I'd get the carbon fiber ones.

Thanks Richard, that was about what I have been finding. My contact indicated he was asking $300 for the pants and mounting hardware so, depending upon actual condition, his asking price appears to be in line.
