Numbers on the aircraft on our emblem

Post by ghostflyer »

Today I was given a sticker that’s Least about 20 years old [looks that way],and the numbers on the side of the aircraft on the sticker are very plain . I have looked at the associations on line emblem but I can’t see them very clearly. So my question is does this aircraft exist and who owns it? The numbers are N1969W.

The registration number does exist. It is the registration for a 1973 Beech B19, owned by a club in Meadville, PA.

It was never to the best of my knowledge a registration for a Cessna 170. 1969 is the year the TIC170A was founded. Of course the N is the US registration prefix. Why the registration ends with a W was probably lost when Cleo Bickford passed away. But perhaps someone knows.

The “W” is representative of the initial convention held in Wichita, KS.

Yep, year 1969 in Wichita. Hence, N1969W

I knew that. 8O Cleo will probably through a bolt of lightning my way for forgetting such detail. Glad a few others didn't forget.

I'm somewhat of a newbie to the TIC170A, but I remembered reading this in The 170 Book.

I seem to remember a convention host who changed that N+number on his convention swag, and Cleo got quite upset about it. I remember him telling me that every single word of the name “The International Cessna 170 Association” (including “The”) was discussed at length in meetings at that first convention.

Yes, I heard the same story from Cleo. I think many of us have who served on the board. Usually after a suggestion of change of some sort was needed, specially anything that had to do with tradition. And in Cleo's book and many others it seemed, nearly everything was a tradition.

I recall Cleo retelling that story as well. The Assoc’n Logo is rumored to be copyrighted but I don’t know that anyone has attempted any enforcement of that, nor have I ever seen the copyright-symbol displayed anywhere. If it were, Bruce (and everyone else who uses it on business card, image, etc. would need a board resolution to use it.)

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

I'm simply standing in front of the original logo that was placed at the forum by TIC170.
