My Ex “170C”

Came across this picture of N8616B which I owned from 1986 or so until maybe 1992. It was built in late 57 but Cessna called it a 58. Bolen tail wheel conversion using the 172 gear. Stock O-300. BAS used my airplane to add the 172 to the tail pull handle STC. Nice airplane. I sold it to buy a Comanche.

I have the same Bolen STC on my '56 172 as does my friend nearby. Both have Bolen's main landing gear. Apparently he had it made specially for his STC as its not the original 172, 170, L19, or 180 gear. Its arched different and is a heavier gear than 170 gear.

Interesting. I always thought that was the 172 gear moved forward. Thanks for the education. I found this one of the most docile tail daggers to fly.
