Canada -US Border state Sept 2021

Post by c170b53 »

Unfortunately as of yesterday, the US border remains closed for Canadians, ( but ok if you fly in commercial :? ) Makes it a bit difficult to attend the upcoming Convention in NY state. I don’t understand the logic in this at all especially for those with two shots. Was hoping things would have changed

This confuses me too when yesterday they announced that double vaccinated Europeans could enter US. And US double vaccinated can visit Canada.

Added to the increasingly long list of things which I really do not understand.

It cannot be understood without getting political and we have all agreed not to do that.

There is confusion on what the real story is.

I just spoke to US Customs and Border Patrol at Northway, AK (2:20pm ADT 9/21/2021 and was told that the border is open for Canadian pilots arriving from Canada at Northway. No Covid testing or proof of vaccination, just the normal process of 1) filing with eAPIS (TSA), 2) filing of an ICAO international flt plan (FAA) and 3) calling US CBP at least 2 hours in advance for approval to clear at Northway (they need to send a Customs officer down to Northway.)

I think he may be wrong about the Covid matter.

See this article from the NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/09/20 ... travel-ban

“ The Biden administration will lift travel restrictions starting in November for foreigners who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, reopening the country to thousands of people, including those who have been separated from family in the United States during the pandemic, and easing a major source of tension with Europe.”

“ Foreign travelers will need to show proof of vaccination before boarding and a negative coronavirus test within three days of coming to the United States, Jeffrey D. Zients, the White House pandemic coordinator, said on Monday. Unvaccinated Americans who want to travel home from overseas will have to clear stricter testing requirements. They will need to test negative for the coronavirus one day before traveling to the United States and show proof that they have bought a test to take after arriving in the United States, Mr. Zients said.”

Perhaps there is a different policy for Canadians. I would hope so but I don’t know. If I were flying from Canada to the US, I would call the US CBP where you will clearing customs and ask the local customs agent and write down what he says, his name, and badge number.

There were some Canadian participants at the Reno Air Races last week. The story was that it was easier to fly across using GA and difficult to cross by ground. So some of the IF1 racers chose to fly their airplanes that are usually brought in a trailer... At least 2 Canadians had their airplanes in the STOLDrags as well.
