It’s a tough decision. I had the entire ad with pictures written on Barnstomers and couldn’t pull the trigger. I guess my thought process is, the market is soft and will be for a while. I’ve already spent this years money on it. Annual is done, insurance is paid. I own the hangar, so that money is sunk a long time ago.

But, I’m 76, been flying since I was 22 and I’m having a hard time with $8.40 gas. Just not flying anymore. I’m drifting for sure.

Prices of 170s seem up again, and inventory low. Several people are asking over 100K for a clean 170B with the 0-300. Previously no one asked over 100K unless it had the 180HP engine swap.

I'm in the market for a 170 but really struggle with the logic of one at these prices. For 55K I can get a great 1959 straight tail 172 that will do 99% of what I want a 170 to do, and with the left over money, go buy a champ or a Cessna 140/120 to get my taildragger time.

I've also thought prices would start to come down, but so far I'm not seeing it happen, maybe flatten, but not decline yet.

Rich,…. if you think that airplane is expensive to operate at $8/gal gas…. re-visit your expenses of ownership you’ve already expressed in this post…and think about how expensive NO HOURS spent flying it is costing you.

You and I are not too different in age… and it’s time to realize that NOW is the time you’ve worked all your life for….and you can’t take the money with you. Quit worrying about gas prices ..(which are coming back down anyway)….and ENJOY the time you have left!
