Presidential tars.
We are now headed for our 6th weekend in a row of our airport being totally closed by the president returning home to relax. The first year he was home 27 times last year 25 times and 10 already this year. All this and absolutely no compensation to the renters or people trying to operate businesses out of the airport. Please note if you reply to this post keep it nonpolitical as those are the forum rules. Bill K

Re: Presidential tars.
This has been a concern from Hawaii to Martha’s Vineyard ever since these Presidential TFRs were invented. In the past most of these guys had two homes to go to or went on vacation in different places. Our current President appears to only go to two places and they are very close to each other.

Prohibited Area P-49 is still active 24-hours/7-days a week..even tho’ the former prez is never there…lives under a TFR in Dallas…. It seems to me our AOPA should get busy and work on this sort of thing.

There’s no airport under P49, so you can fly around it. Maybe it’s only active when he’s there? (Probably not) I think the TFRs around a regular presidential location should allow security waivers for known pilots based at these airports. Maybe using discrete transponder codes? It makes little sense to continuously shut a whole airport down especially when the threat is minimal.

Re: Presidential tars.
The Sectional describes the active-times for P49…which is continuous….and it’s a PINTB (pain in the butt) when traversing to/from WACKO Texas or visiting nearby McGregor. It’d make more sense if they put it over the Rocket-Test area Elon has just to the South.voorheesh wrote:There’s no airport under P49, so you can fly around it. Musk’s playground could be a literal PINTB

Re: Presidential tars.
George, P-49 does seem a bit ridiculous if he is never there or worse never going to be there. Wonder it there is a P-Area where ever it is he does reside?
The current situation that effects N57 and many other airports to a lessor extent is just wrong. All of the Aviation organizations should be strongly lobbying for change at least to the extent of compensation to those effected.
I don"t feel the pain as I am no longer flying to the extent I would have been had I not lost my medical. The usual TFR comes to the edge of the ATA I work at and does not effect 95% of the going for breakfast flights I now make in my Vagabond though a good 1/4 of the airspace direction I might fly is off limits. I'm also very comfortable flying right up to the edge of the TFR and around it.

Where his home is located in an upscale area of Dallas is permanently designated as “National Defense Airspace” and pilots are expected to “Check NOTAMS” to avoid transgressions. It is depicted on the Sectional Charts and very close to Dallas Love, Dallas Executive (formerly Redbird), Addison, DFW, and many other small airports. Here’s a ZOOM of the chart:
