Are conventions ever held in the western states? I'd be interested in attending, but distance is a 'thing' for me. Time mostly.

Thanks.

Here is the secret of how convention locations are picked. A member steps up and announces they'd like to host a convention at a location. That's it. Conventions have been held everywhere throughout the US. Usually, but not always the convention is held at or very near where the host lives but this is not always the case. Quite a few conventions have been hosted by members at a location clear across the country from where they live.

Of course there is a little more that goes into it. Hosting a convention is not a light task. Planning by the host can be a multi year preparation proposition. Besides 100 or more "friends" showing up for a week of activities the host must schedule and manage, it is the place the business and membership meetings of the Association are carried out. It is an important gathering towards the well being of the Association.

In years past we have been fortunate to have more than one host wanting to put on a convention in the same year. After presenting their idea to the membership at convention, at the membership meeting, the members present vote on which proposal to accept and usually try to accept all proposals hoping to push a host to another year which has been done but is not always feasible. Ideally the location of the convention would alternate between the east and west coast, north and south boarder and in the middle of the country.

#3 on the map list says Dayton, Colorado.
But the dot on the map sure looks like it is more likely to have been Dayton, Ohio! :?:

It was Dayton, Ohio. I’ve been updating this map for YEARS and you’re the first who has been observant enough to notice the error.

If this is the "INTERNATIONAL Cessna 170 Association", then perhaps a convention could be held outside of the USA.

We are an international association because we have members from around the world. No citizen of any country is excluded. Currently we have at least one member from each country identified by the following 2 letter postal identifier: AE, AR, AT, AU, BE, CA, CH, DE, DK, ES, FI, FR, GB, HK, IE, MX, NZ, PA, SE, UA, US and UY. That is 22 countries.

There is nothing stopping a member from proposing to host a convention in any country.
