I have ordered Fresh Cab based on your recommendation and am anxious to see the results. Thanks for this very good idea. Hope it works. I also plan on using in my basement of a house that is currently vacant and waiting to sell. Ummmmm, can smell the air in my fantasy sniffer as I type.

At some feed stores (Tractor Supply, etc.) you can also get rat/snake sticky paper. This stuff will catch a mouse, snake, etc. and they stick to it and cannot move. Park your tailwheel on a sheet. (This is an untried idea I just came up with. Give the credit to Beck's bier.)

Sober up George!

If it's the same stuff we used at NASA's Stennis Space Center (Mississippi Gulf Coast) to catch mice, DO NOT PARK YOUR TAIL WHEEL ON IT! You'll NEVER get it off. We eventually abandoned the idea in favor of spring traps because it caught many more people than mice. If any of you know what Proseal is, the sticky traps are that sticky, only they never dry out.

Got my "mouse ring" made and placed it under the bird today. The 16" is probably a good height for stopping the critters, but I wish I'd cut it down to 14" or so. A bit more clearance might be nice to ensure clearance while placing/removing the ring and if the tailwheel goes a bit flat it might not be a good thing to have so close under the tail.

To pay anything over the cost of a piece of aluminum sheet metal to fit around the tailwheel (or mains) is crazy. Can't believe companies are charging $500 and more. We just cut a piece high and long enough to go around the tailwheel, crimped both end so they would connect and then placed a typical office clip on the top. Worked perfectly. They were also portable. Just rolled up tightly, put a bungee cord around it and stowed away in the back of the airplane. If I could figure out how to post a photo, I would, but I can't. I, of course, was joking about my $499.95 special

I went to Lowe's or Home Depot and purchased a bit of roof flashing material, cut it to the proper length and put it around the tail wheel with a spring clamp to hold the ends together. At first I put these around all three gears, then realized that a mouse could not access the cabin via the main gear leg (or the engine compartment) so I now only have the tail wheel protected. I did have a mouse get into the plane prior to putting the metal around the tailwheel. First time in the 24 years of ownership of this particular aircraft. Fortunately no damage found.

Sorry about the misunderstanding of a $499.00 purchase price for the mouse "trap". I went on the previous mention of Cascade Aircraft Conversions for $600.00. Maybe that was also tongue-in-cheek.

Anyway, here's photos of ours with evidence that the mouse that had gotten in the airplane before I put the collar on was caught trying to escape :0) Each end of the collar was bent back to overlap the other end so it was a snug fit. The clip was to hold the two pieces together. Cost? 30 cents because we used scrap sheeting.

I do it cheaper. Place 4 sticky trap plates around the wheel and viola, you catch any mouse trying to get there.
