I was looking around and the 8.5 X 6 tires I have found so far are 6 ply.
Hmmm.

I wonder if a person could use STC SA02231AK ?

That STC is for a Piper PA-18. You might be able to use it to assist in getting a field approval but why not use a STC for a kit for a Cessna 180 or 206 which makes more sense for the purpose of getting an approval.rod907 wrote:"There is no STC for a double puck brake on a 170 it must be completed by field approval."

STC SA02231AK Approved Model List (AML) includes several Cessna models including the 170, 170A, and 170B in addition to several Piper cub type aircraft including the PA18. It approves the installation on Cleveland wheel and brake kit 199-62 and 199-62A, the double piston brakes. I used this STC to install double piston brakes when I installed 8.00x6 tires on a 55 170B I previously owned. This is the F. Atlee Dodge STC. It is now owned by Univair, selling for $245. You can see the complete list of approved aircraft models on the FAA.gov web site, under for mechanics, supplemental type certificates. They are listed by type certificate number, so the 170 series under A-799 are near the bottom on the cover sheet and are listed first on the AML if you open the pdf. Hope this clears it up.

You would think Univair would advertise their product fully.bat443 wrote:STC SA02231AK Approved Model List (AML) includes several Cessna models including the 170, 170A, and 170B in addition to several Piper cub type aircraft including the PA18. Thanks Tim for the additional information.

I agree Bruce, it seems if you (Univair) were trying to sell something you would let all potential buyers know it was available. Actually when I purchased a copy of the STC I got it from Alaska Bushwheels which was acting as a dealer for f.a. Dodge before the sale to Univair and may still be. At that time Alaska Bushwheels also had the best price on Cleveland conversion kits. Don't know about their pricing now, plus shipping would now be from Alaska.
