Accessory Case Repair

Post by Bruce Fenstermacher »

Getting the parts together for my engine reassembly. Just closely inspected my accessory case and found that one of the holes the oil pump gears rides in is worn. Called Drake about a repair and they said $650 8O

Any one else had this repair done? If so by who and how much?

I have a later 5 hole accessory case which has bushings in these holes and is good shape but I need a 5 hole sump to use it. Anyone have a 5 hole sump they'd like to trade for a 3 hole sump?

How did Drake propose to fix the worn hole? 650 bucks is alot of dough--I would guess that's for a weld-up & re-bore job? Seems like it should be quite a bit less to bore worn hole bigger & bush down to proper size.
But I have to admit I don't know what would be the approved way to repair the problem. Maybe Drake is the only legal way to go--then they would kinda have you by the short & curlies...... ..... bummer...

I'm not familiar with that repair scheme, but a competetive bid should certainly be in order. Try Ajax in San Antonio. Contact is: Randy Selchert, 800-531-7212
email address???? (according to my bad handwritten note) might be ajaxavia@hotmail.com

An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

After I described the worn hole to the person I was talking to at Drake he simply said $650. Seemed like they might have a flat fee to fix anything and all things that are required to return it to service for that fee.

My first thought was maybe I should find a good 5 hole sump to use with my good five hole accessory case since I'd recently saw one available*.

Any way I didn't ask any questions, just said I'd get back with them.

I'll check Ajax this afternoon.

Thanks

Just talked to Ajax. If it's determined that only the hole that the pump gear boss runs in needs to be sleeved. Then the cost is $250. If there are gouges in the outside where the gear runs depending on how many and how deep, the repair is in the $600 area if it can be repaired at all.
Of course mine is gouged a little so what do I do...hmmm.

Accessory Case

Post by t7275tr »

I had Drake repair the accessory case on my C145 at overhaul two years age. The oil pump galley was gauled and the threads for the oil screen were cross threaded. It came back looking new with a $500 bill. You may find someone cheaper, but I was very satisfied with their work.
