Engine Cowling Seals?

Hi Everyone,
I was looking at the seals on the backside of my engine cowling and getting the impression they are not installed correctly. The rubber seals you see in the image are fixed to the upper cowling. Should they be inside and forward of the rear cowling bulkhead rather than hanging out the back like they are?

Well it might surprise you to learn they are not the right type of seal. And they would not be my first choice of replacement seal. What is/was there was a P cloth impregnated seal like this:

You might try to bend them over so they lay against the inside of the baffle back and do a better job of sealing. Maybe that is the way the installer intended them to work. But you might find they put to much pressure on the baffles holding them a part and you may not even be able to close the baffle.

Thanks Bruce. I'll open the cowling and see if they will tuck in as intended for better sealing. Maybe later I can install the more desirable seals.

I didn't say the P seal was more desirable, just that it was more like the original. To be honest, sealing the baffle with anything but duck tape, is hard to do.

The problem I see with the system you have is it will take about 6 hands to close the baffle.

The air box seals on my '52 model were a similar type but with the air box removed,they were angled forwad at about a 45 degree angle and sealed tightly when the air box was installed.
