I believe this might be what I've seen on a number of aircraft and might be to what Miles was referring:

George, the door half (lower part in your larger picture) looks very close if not identical to what I have. The wing half of what I have doesn't have the ears, just the hourglass-shaped part, and it's split horizontally to fit over the end of the existing steel tang that's attached to the underside of the wing.

If the original bracket is still existing beneath the wing, splitting and pinning the tongue shouldn't pose a problem.
And the tongue can fit into the socket/catch either head-on or sideways.
I've had many requests for this type of door catch and it is not an easy find, so I was glad to finally discover it at RV stores and that led me to Amazon.

That is exactly what I have, John.

John, did you weld that fitting on to the wing attach bracket?

Karl,
It is riveted, click on the picture it will expand and you will be able to see the flush rivet.
Looks like one could, with a common hack saw, make the parts in Bruce's post into ones like the Sky Catch.

Did you have the original door stop brackets on the wing removed? I'm leaning toward installing Door Stewards and Del is getting ready to start on my wing and wants to know whether or not to reinstall my old brackets.

I had Del remove the original door stops under the wing. Mine were all busted up and they are not needed with Door Stewards.

Re: Cessna Open Door Holders
Thanks Richard, that's the way I'm leaning. The left wing will have the screw holes for the brackets, and the re-skinned right wing will not, but I'm thinking that won't be much of an issue aesthetically.

Miles if you are going with an all new paint job it shouldn't be an issue to fill & sand those holes with Bondo,JB Weld or similar and it will eliminate the screw holes.

I'll be letting Del and/or the painter make that call.170C wrote:Miles if you are going with an all new paint job it shouldn't be an issue to fill & sand those holes with Bondo,JB Weld or similar and it will eliminate the screw holes.

I always used pull pins in my door hinges and just removed the doors and set them aside for loading and unloading.
