Installed this newly overhauled C-145-2H on the airframe over the past couple of weeks, as well as an overhauled carburetor and a full set of new Airforms baffles.

That paint scheme looks great!
Thanks! I don't have any good engine pics with the new baffles on it, but you're right, they do dress it up nicely. It's almost a shame to cover it all up with the ratty old cowlings!
The paint looks good from at least 15 feet away. The previous owner chose the scheme back in the early 90's, I think. Whether it was planned or just coincidence, Rustoleum makes a very close match to the tan color

No, I didn't. I've seen another 170 locally that did and yes, they looked awesome. In the end there were a few modifications I had to make, trimming here and there (like for the unused prop control lever on the -2H crankcase), and I had the engine on the mounts before we did any baffling so fitting the one around the pan was crazy tight.. I would've stratched up that pretty powder coating for sure... or at least that's what I"m telling myself. Non-coated fit better within the budget too.

Arash,
At the risk of endangering my normal "Smarter than almost everyone else" persona, what in hell is "Hammer" powder coating ?

This example is bronze. Airforms uses silver. It's a neat effect. Parts of my instrument panel and yokes are painted with it in black.

Thanks to all for the clairification. I had a bunch of truck wheels powder coated last year and they didn't offer anything other than "powder coating" so I was curious.

Just to pile on a bit, here are my "hammertone" baffles (when they were new in 2006):

Re: What did you buy for your 170 today?
After flying my 170A/210 and being that it has sat in the hangar for 1 year and eight months it needed a little TLC to the airframe because the new engine was getting all of the attention: so I purchased a few things:
The picture of the strobe power pack is an old picture however I bought a new one. I had the Aeroflash strobe system field approved years ago and the right strobe had quit working. With all of the fuel system with the new IO 360 having the header tank inside the airplane. I thought a fire extinguisher would be a good Idea. A good ide in any case and something I have been meaning to do anyway. I will purchase a hose for the fire extinguisher that Amerex sells seperatly. The old Gill G-25 battery was on it's last legs so a new Concord RG-25XC (XC) = Extra cranking power. This battery was the easy way out. I purchased all of these things yesterday plus installed all of them. Got the # 2 radio wiring checked out and reinstalled. Tightened all of the exhaust nuts. cleaned the Battery box. Re-attached the lower portion of the passenger assist handle on the right door post which had pulled lose on the first flight. all of this only took 3.5 hours of my time yesterday after work. Well at least that keeps me out of the bars. Tonight she gets a bath. Top the fuel off and see what my fuel burn was for the test flight.
The cool thing is Phyllis (wife) authorized all of these purchases.

Airfares is now only charging a 15% surcharge for the powder coating. I wonder if I could get them to use Cowl Saver seal material from McFarlane.Aryana wrote:Did you opt for the hammer powdercoating option on the baffles from Airforms? It's a 50% surcharge, but it is SO worth it!

Not only, my Dad made an interesting rig to manage the fuselage once the gear is off.Aryana wrote:I bet those rollers make moving and storing those wings a lot easier. Looks good.bagarre wrote:All I bought was some 2x4s and plywood.
