Floor carpeting C170B

Post by MoonlightVFR »

How was original floor carpeting attached to aluminum floor in a C170B.
Subject is C170B s.n.26433 July 1954 roll out.

I am going to have airtex manufacture a carpet.

Current carpet just disintegrated without very much foot traffic. Suspect heat and poor quality carpet backing.

Question comes down to How did factory originally install carpet? What is best method for 2016 installation?

Regards

I use the self-adhesive-back industrial velcro from Home Depot. I had a fibrous backing (it looks like course wool) bound to my carpet which sticks well to the hook side velcro on the floor. The industrial velcro adhesive holds to the aluminum very well but must not be stressed for 24 hours after installation until it fully cures.

Airtex carpet with foam backing stays in place partially by the foam, partially by the tight fitting holes for the seat tracks. At least it did on mine. Maybe it's expensive and heavy but it also lasts.

Same here, my Airtex stays in place nicely without any tape or velcro.

Originally, on the tunnel at least, it was glued on. At least my original carpet is glued to the tunnel.

I did use upholstery glue on the tunnel only.
