Post by Metal Master »

Anyone flying in or driving into The AOPA Bremerton Fly-in this week end?
I am planning to fly over today some time after noon. See special NOTAM on arrival procedures.

Well the AOPA fly-in at Bremerton Washington is over. AOPA has Written up a pretty good report:
https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all ... on-awesome
I do not take a lot of pictures. We were able to count about 5 170's parked around the Fly-In. I only recognized one Feeder Feeder Belonging to Bobby Jack Woolley.

The only other 170 people I talked to there were the owners of Door Steward with there 170A. I never did make contact with any other 170 Owners. The seminars I went to were well attended with many questions asked. The seminars I was most interested in were 3rd class medical reform and ADS B requirements. Both were enlightening and provided me with some Answers.
The other item I was most interested in seeing is the Garmin G5 electronic attitude indicator. I met up Friday evening with an old acquaintance Steve Ells previously of AOPA Magazine Maintenance writer and Past CPA Tech. It was great meeting with this old friend as we have had many phone conversations before but had never met in person. We ended up meeting again at the Garmin booth and were both there to ask about the G5 myself interested in potential future growth capability of the instrument. (Not Happening) according to Garmin and the required or Parallel GPS antenna requirements. Essentially depending on what other GPS derived instruments you have in your aircraft (I have none other than my hand held) the G5 will have to be installed with a Garmin GPS antenna making the entire instrument package cost roughly $2500 for the complete instrument not including Coax and Installation. The instrument has to be hooked up to your PITOT and Static Systems. And Steve's wanting to know the differences between the DYNON EFIS-D10A and the Garmin G5 both now being STC'd for certified aircraft. I look forward to seeing an article from Steve on the subject.
The Friday night Barnstormers Party was great with the the U2 Cover Band U253 providing the back ground in front of John Sessions B-25 Grumpy.

The 22 page NOTAM for arriving at Bremerton was initially a little daunting flying around the SEA-TAC International Airport Class Bravo Airspace however after entering the GPS coordinates into the I fly GPS it was a non issue other than dealing with the turbulence at low altitude. It was 93 degrees on the ramp unusually warm for the greater Puget sound Area. Following the departure procedure was even easier as there was no holding pattern.
My Son Tony the new A&P attended the fly in and camped out with me overnight having drove over late Friday evening after work. We both left Bremerton at the same time. With him driving he actually beat me back to the Auburn Airport where he had left his car to drive my jeep over.
The 170A/210 now has 30.59 hour on the engine. It is getting the job done
