If you can make a Lycoming look this good your Continental should look fantastic!!

I'm not sure if you already mentioned this, but what shade of silver/gray are you planning on using for the Conti?
Well, the color is Continental Gold but I know that doesn't mean much since I've seen several shades of it.

Here are the last two motors we did before mine to give you an idea of the color. Linda will be painting mine the same color today or tomorrow. The cylinders will be black Millennium's.

Your not! I really appreciate them as well. I'm also envious if his arrangement with his experienced engine overhauler friend. I'd love to find someone like that in my neck of the woods to help him out and learn from.

I think that Super Eagle would look good on my 172TD :!: It would be surprising what 85+ more horses & a cs prop would do for Ole Pokey

The orginal color of these engines was NOT CONTINENTAL GOLD!

They were grey, with black accessories and cylinders.

Gold did not come into Continental until the 60s.

Finally back at it again after a busy few weeks. Busines travel and bad weather have slowed me down a bit.

I had some bad news. My gears were rejected from too much wear. You do not want to know how much new gears cost. 8O The starter gear will not be used because I am putting the SkyTech STC back on the engine.

I started work cleaning up the crank and rods today. I will have some more pictures soon.

I've had only good experiences with Western Skyways.

Ok. Here's a few more pictures.

The crankshaft seal on the C-145 is a split design so it goes on easy. No need to stretch it over the flange.

Everything needs to be clean and dry so we take a lot of time washing with solvent. Copious amounts of oil are used throughout. All the threads are lubricated with oil. We are using 50/50 STP and Mineral Oil for assembly.

I opted for new hydraulic lifters and tappets.

Through bolts get wire wheeled, chased and cleaned. Then the O-rings go on.

Here the case halves are prepped, decked and cleaned. Ready for threading. Some of these pictures are out of order. This is not meant to be a how to guide. Make sure to follow the Cont overhaul manual.

The tools of the trade for case threading. Hysol and silk thread. These have done a lot of engines.

We decided to put this engine together horizontally as the manual suggests vs. upright on the engine stand. There are pros and cons to doing it either way. The C145 is a small engine and fairly easy to manhandle so we are doing it flat on the table.

Bearings are in and using a lot of oil everywhere.

Crank assembly gets laid in place.

Thrust bearings are installed and checked.

My CGR-30P showed up today as well. :D

Time tested techniques and materials being used here.

Continentals Pub M-0 Maintenance Manual, Standard Practices For Spark Ignited Engines is an interesting read. A mix of new chemicals and sealants being used. For example Loctite 30516 Gasket Sealant is used on the 2-4-6 side of the case flange with time honored silk thread while Loctite 515 Gasket Eliminator Flange Sealant is used on the other. BTW for those who are not engine builders the silk thread is not just any silk thread but CMI part 641543.

Last engine I did about 10 years ago prior to pub M-0, using Continental SIL-99-2B dated 3/29/99 Permatex Aviation Grade 3D and 641543 Silk Thread was used on the 2-4-6 case half and Loctite 515 on the other half.

Time flies, things change.

I really, really, really want one of those Electronic International engine computers. Hope you can do a second thread on that once you have it up and flying again.
