I'm looking into a climb prop. I see a lot of the Alaskans talk highly of the McCauley 8043. Is this the 1A175DM? I've talked with a few folks at some of the dealer and there dosen't seem to be a 43 there is a 8042 is this what people are buying and repitch to 43 or am missing something? I have also seen the 1A170 is this a nouther possiblity for a 80 in flat prop? What are you guys buying for a (Borer) prop. for a 170b with the O-300 w/ 8 bolt?
Thanks any info. is appreciated,

Borer prop?

I stuck a new 1A175 DM 8042 on mine a few years ago. I love it, have never considered putting the 76" back on. From what I gathered the 40 pitch doesn't buy much in t/o performance but is noticably slower in cruise.
A "Borer" prop is a misnomer. Roger Borer got the STC for big (82"?) props on Cubs a long time ago and so all long Cub props came to be called "Borers". In time, folks not understanding this origin started calling long props even on Cessnas "Borers".

I agree with Spiro. I put an 80-42 on 4 years ago and have never wanted to put the 76-53 back on. If I was to fly outside I might do it but otherwise the performance gains (except cruise, you will lose 10-15mph) are worth it. If you intend to use your plane on skis, you will definetely want one also, as in deep or sticky snow, a 170 needs all the pull you can get.

I just got off the phone with Kenmore Air (800) 423-5526 and they will sell a copy of their STC #SA111NW for $100. That will make the 1A175-DM McCauley 8042 prop that's been hanging on the front of my plane since '99 legal (once an A&P checks it out and files the forms).
