p/n 0713026-5 Push Pull Master Switch

Post by Bathman »

The one in my aircraft is on the way out. Sometimes it works sometimes it needs a bit of encouragement to work.

Now I know people say that you can take these apart and service them but I would rather not do that. Does anybody have any new old stock? Or how difficult is it to replace it with one of the modern Cessna master switches?

'53 B-model N146YS SN:25713
50th Anniversary of Flight Model. Winner-Best Original 170B, 100th Anniversary of Flight Convention.
An originality nut (mostly) for the right reasons. ;)

Unfortunately the only supplier listed there with "new"stock hasn't actually got any stock at all. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Has anyone fitted a modern split master switch?

A toggle switch would require less hacking of the panel than a rocker switch. Cessna has a Service Bulletin which calls for replacing these push-pull switches with toggle switches in 172’s.

Those split master switches are low-quality and have caused a lot of trouble. Stay away.

This will be easy fix. You are going to be very happy.

Purchase same MS from Ebay, etc.

Chuck up in a vise - carefully bend up metal tabs holding the bakelite switch base to cover. Disassemble.

Your problem is most likely intermittent operation because rivets not cinched at time of orig install.

small ball peen hammer - use vise as an anvil. Cinch riveted wire leads tight- don't over do it.

Wiring under panel is a Rat's nest. When radios, instruments being up graded. Pressure is put on MS and the leads become loose.
May solve several problems.
There is more info on this website... G A Horn did it to his plane.

Problem may have affected 100s of single engine aircraft.
