Thank you, I had forgotten about that one. I think it came out just after the 175/375? I’m not in a great hurry and thought I’d wait for the avionics shops to catch their breath after all the ADSB installs.

I went for a broader overhaul of the panel. Dual G5's and a 650, along with intercom, audio panel and the transponder. Nulites on the round gauges. It's tough to get lost with all the magenta lines and trend vectors.

New additions are a set of Bartone Pipes and a Steve's Gascolator. The pipes look and function great, and the Gascolator is rugged and compact. Mike

Got the Peterson autofuel STC. I have an O-300 with ECI Titan cylinders. Reading the Peterson website, it says that the O-300 needs to keep at least 30% 100LL. I questioned Peterson, and they said it's to protect the valve seats. If I could get ECI (now Continental) to tell me in writing that their valve seats are hardened, then the 30% goes away. I did, and they did, and they are hardened. So I'm good to go at a $2/gal savings and no need to do any math.

uAvionix TSO’ed TailBeacon ADS-B out.

$50 for the electronics, $1,950 for dealing with the FAA.

Petersen fell for the age-old wives tale that lead “cushions” valve seats. Another tale is lead “lubricates” valves.
There used to be an “expert” who wrote for GAN who used his past employment at a major oil company to borrow credence to his similar claims. I once challenged him to show me where engines and valves were failing from lack of lead and that after lead was added to fuel ... that the valve failures ceased. He never responded.

Lead was added to fuel for only one purpose: To raise the anti-knock index of gasoline. Lead forms sludge, abrasive residues, fouls spark plugs, and shortens the life of engines. (Anyone as old as me recall that auto engines used to be worn-out after 70K miles? ...and now cars easily surpass 200K and more with unleaded fuels.

Henry Ford attempted to get the automotive industry to go entirely to ethanol for fuel (specifically because he believed it would be good for farmers who used his early tractors, all of which could burn either fuel including no-lead gasoline) but he was defeated in his efforts by Standard Oil in conjunction with DuPont Chemical who conspired together and developed tetraethyl lead for gasoline (which disastrously injured and killed with lead-poisoning several chemists who worked on the problem.)

Now here we are trying to get rid of lead and instead using...what ...??

I went with a Stratus ESG (In & Out) as well as a JPI Fuel totalizer.

Those Bartone exhausts look really great . Great idea of directing exhaust away from the aircraft . When I had the continental engine I had very high counts of carbon monoxide
And was always trying to find the source of the problem. No,doubt George you will find the iPad that you can’t fly with out it. No more magnetic deviations, no compass deviations ,no more wind drift . Just follow the purple line. We have to have a secondary /independent form of navigation in this country so I print my flight plan/maps , w/b page ,fuel usage page, notams and weather and have it in a binder. When I am flying I mark position on the map and mark fuel remaining and this is done every 30mins. . All maps are the latest . We have areas that are not GPS covered but the printed maps keep me out of trouble .

Same here in the New World.... My secondary/independent form of navigation is called “pilotage”. My third form is “Dead Reckoning”. :twisted:

My first purchase for my new plane. A new Scott 3200 tailwheel. Hopefully can get this installed tomorrow and be out flying again!

I also grabbed a CO detector to replace the ‘orange dot’ card.

This works fine as a CO detector, but causes audio interference when a cord is plugged in and charging a device. I was planning to install one of the Garmin USB chargers so I think I’ll still keep this as a CO detector. It has to be better than the orange dot.
