Just have been reading a advertisement from “Flying “ the april 1948 addition about the Cessna 170 . In the add it’s showing a 170 1949 model and stating it was a all metal construction .they forgot to mention it had a fabric wing. In paragraph 2 it has so much room that passengers can switch from the front seats to the back seats in flight . Jezz, I have trouble handing back a KFC chicken leg to the back seat passengers. The drawings show 2 people in the front seats with a ton of room .must have been very small people .
Now the kicker.. cruising speed of OVER 120mph and a top speed of 140MPH. All down hill. It has a 500mile range . Fuel will only stretch so far. I haven’t seen advertisements from Cessna like this these days. It was a good laugh.

Re: Family car of the air
When I purchased 62C a little over three years ago I scoured eBay for an original advertisement for the 1950 170A. I quickly located one that had been removed from a flying magazine and after paying a couple of bucks and waiting a couple weeks, it arrived at my door. Before framing it and placing it on the bookcase behind my home office desk, I scanned it.
I often look at the ad when I'm in the middle of a long-winded conference call, and wonder about the same things that you pointed out as I glance back and forth between the ad and a current framed photo of 62C, basking in the sun on a grass strip. Always brings a smile to my face.

Thanks for clarifying what KFC means Down Under.... I thought you were referring to Prince William’s wife.... Kate From Cambridge...ghostflyer wrote:, I have trouble handing back a KFC chicken leg to the back seat passengers.....
