Authority for Aluminum Cleveland Wheels/Brakes

Post by gfeher »

Per Parker Hannifin/Cleveland STC SA13GL, many years ago the wheels and brakes on my 170B were converted to p/n’s 40-97A (wheels) and 30-63A (brakes), both of which are magnesium. Does anyone know of another Parker Hannifin/Cleveland STC or other basis of authority for using or upgrading to Cleveland aluminum wheels and brakes on the 170B?

Have you considered installing ABI aluminum wheels and double puck brakes? Pretty reasonable price(compared to Parker)and comes with STC.

Thanks cessnut. While I don't really need double pucks for what I do, It looks like the ABI 199-62 and 199-62A aluminum wheel and brake kits are the answer and the only current options. Both are for 1 1/2" axles and approved for all 170 models via STC SA02576AK. Kit 199-62 has 3-bolt wheels; kit 199-62A has 6-bolt wheels. There is another ABI kit, 199-71, approved for all 170 models by the same STC, that has 6-bolt wheels for 1 1/4" axles.

I have placed a call to Parker-Hannifin/Cleveland Technical and asked the question. I will post their answer when received.

Here is the response from Cleveland:

Hi George,

Thanks so much for your call into the Tech Line, yesterday regarding the 40-97A Cleveland wheels covered under STC SA13GL.

The 40-97A are magnesium and it is currently the only wheel approved for the Cessna 170s aircraft. There isn’t an aluminum version of the same wheel, so sorry.

I hope the above information is helpful. If I can be of any additional assistance please don’t’ hesitate to reach out to me.

Thanks,
