I can’t find any recent posts on how to replace or service the original starter. Mine is leaking oil and making a mess on an otherwise tight engine.
I installed a skytec on another 170 over 20 years ago and the mods to the engine made me nervous. I never got to find out if it was a good long term solution as one of my then partners dug the prop into the ground of that plane shortly afterwards.
My personal 170A that I have been flying for over 20 years is pretty clean…. So I was looking for a simple solution or direct replacement ( unscrew and bolt on) for my cable pull starter.
Does anyone know a source or a shop that does rebuilds ( is that possible?)

Overhauled starters are listed various places. Didn't check if any of them actually have stock. Prices I saw in the area of $550.
Fresno sells and overhaul kit with 2 seals, bushings and brushes. They also sell the seals separately.
The Delco Remy part # of the seals are 1867150 and 1910379. You can go to the Delco Remy site and look up these parts and it will give you the dimensions: Part No. 1867150 — Part 25/64 X 29/32 ID X 1.503 OD They don't list the other part numbers dimension.

Steve Grimsley wrote a very good article on this very subject of re-sealing your Delco-Remy starter (pg 14): https://cessna170.org/download/24/170-n ... 2024-2.pdf

thanks, I will look at it.
I have been a bit apprehensive about rebuilding it myself because if I blow it, I don't have a plan B I like.
