TX C170 Fly-in June 8, 2024, Sweetwater KSWW

TX June 8th, 2024 Sweetwater, KSWW

We hope all of our fly-ins are fun for everyone who can attend, but having said that, our June fly-in will be special and more interesting than our normal meet, eat, and greet.

Members Jamie and Pat Crandall have organized and arranged for us to meet at historic Avenger Field https://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/ent ... -air-field, for lunch downtown and then visit The National WASP Museum https://www.waspmuseum.org/ .

They have coordinated with the Oil Burners chapter of the Vintage Motor Car Club of America to meet us at Avenger field and transport us to Buck's Steaks & Bar-B-Que https://www.yelp.com/biz/bucks-steaks-a ... eetwater-3 in their vintage cars.

After lunch they will take us to the museum https://www.waspmuseum.org/ where we can see displays (including aircraft) and read stories of these dedicated and brave women who served during WWII. Also on display is a Jeep restored and donated by our own member, Bob Jolley.

Just to recap, let's please arrive at Avenger http://www.airnav.com/airport/KSWW prior to 11:00 a.m. (Our reservations are for 11:00, so we'll hope to see you by 10:30, if possible). We can not taxi to the museum, so we will have to park at the FBO. We'll have a good lunch and then head for the museum. An effort will be made to carry people from the Museum back to the FBO when they are ready to leave so everyone can enjoy the museum as long as they wish but don't have to wait till the entire group is finished.

Texas members of TIC170A  and guests met at Avenger Field at Sweetwater, Texas on Saturday the 8th of June.

Members of the Oil Burners chapter of The Vintage Mortor Car Club of America joined us in Sweetwater and provided transportation for Cessna 170 members who flew in.  The Oil Burners club also picked up the tab for everyone's lunch and admission to the National WASP WWII Museum.  The club members were the most gracious co-hosts of our event that day, which members of the Cessna 170 Association would like to extend a huge Thank You to them.  In exchange for their generosity both associations kindly ask those who wish, to make a donation to the scholarship fund of the VMCCA  The Vintage Motor Car Club of America (vmcca.org) .

We enjoyed a great BBQ lunch and visiting with everyone attending, which was a total of 39 people.

After lunch we all went to The National WASP WWII Museum  National WASP WWII Museum – Honoring the life and legacy of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (waspmuseum.org) where we were very kindly received and given a very nice personal tour of the Museum.  Everyone found iit most interesting.  Two of the docents had a parent who worked at Avenger Field when the WASP trained there.  One of the buildings housing part of the museum is one of the original hangars used during the period of the WASP training.  We would highly recommend visiting the museum to honor these young women who served our country during WWII.
