Stall Warning Indicator
Looking for a Stall Warning Indicator for my 170A. It is part #0511062-4. This is the switch with the tab actually out in the wing. Current one seems to have been damaged in storage. I understand that maybe not all the A-models had these but otherwise I have a hole in the wing. Maybe someone knows if I can repair the tab? I will have a look at that. Many thanks.
Re: Stall Warning Indicator
This is called a “Lift Detector” and the amount of “lift” force for proper operation is ONE HALF gram. (use a postage scale to check) While the switch against which the vane operates appears to be a common computer-type switch…in fact, it is not. It is a very lightly operated switch and quite expensive from Safe Flight or from Cessna.walloceans wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 5:09 am Looking for a Stall Warning Indicator for my 170A. (here is where I described how I discovered an incorrect part was installed in my B-model) https://forum.cessna170.org/forums/view ... am#p142612

Re: Stall Warning Indicator
Thank you, George. Good info to fudge around on eBarf. It's nice to be in a community with shared interests (keeping the Old Birds flying) I am working my way thorugh it, one small item, the Stall Warning/Left Detectier, or what ever. Tested the one I have today and I can hear it click and my test light goes on so the thing is functional-I only have to modify the vane and calibrate.
In the research/search though I am (what shall I say?) dissappointed? that folks will drag a battered old Stall/Lift whatever thingy out of some wreck and put it in the marketplace for ? $$$ $250/$450- I even saw one heated unit up for grabs for $4900+. Do folks actually buy those? I am grtateful for this supportive community and I try to do my part when the chance allows/ Many thanks/ JC

Re: Stall Warning Indicator
JC , I may have a spare. I will check this week when I get to the hanger next. I’m restoring a 1956 B model, and I have a second set of wings. It has the lift detector in it, but I don’t know what the part # is.

Re: Stall Warning Indicator
170 and 170A models DO NOT require an stall warning. 170B models DO require a stall warning.
So you will find 170 and 170A models with no lift detector in the wing and your system can be removed and a plate installed over the hole and I will be it you had to pay the Cessna price for a new lift detector a plate over the hole would be exactly what you do.
Could you fix your lift indicator? Not legally and if legality was not considered, you'd have to be a very special MacGyver type to succeed.

Re: Stall Warning Indicator
Thank you, guys. I am aware that the A models dont' require the "Lift Detector" but, as we say, I would need to cover the hole in some way.
As an aside: I have another airplane, a Helio. One of my "Helio Brothers" had a gear leg failure the other day, damaging the rt wing and the rt end of stabilator. He uses his commercially (you guys no doubt see the footage from that airplane). I was ready to loan him a spare wing and stabilator while he got his repaired- turns out he only now needs that stabilator. But that's how we try to keep em flying. Many thanks/ JC
