I am working on changing the rudder bolts and nuts on a 1958 172. Can anyone give me a suggestion on where to buy MS20365-428C nuts? There seems to be many different descriptions of what this nut is made of, is it fiber or steel locking, stainless or just steel. Every place I call says it is different. I just need to know where I can buy 3 nuts at this time. I have seen prices from .42 to 5.00 each. Anyone know where I can get the correct nut with shipping that is not 30.00 for 5.00 worth of nuts?
Thanks for any help. This is for a eaa members plane and I am a retired Carpenter and an A&P doing this work for free to help people out.
Thanks
Don

Re: hardware nuts
Don,
I’ll let others here chime in on where to buy the nuts. I’ll tackle what nut you need.
You’re right to be confused on what, at first glance, appears to be a standard nut. The authority is the MS spec sheet for that nut. It can be found here. With the “C” at the end of the dash number it is an all metal — i.e. no elastic insert — stop nut. For further discussion on this read this thread and this thread.

Try Airpower. They have reasonable prices on parts and shipping.

MS20365-428C crosses to an AN363-428 or MS21045-4 available at Aircraft Spruce

Bruce
Thanks for answering . I did go by AC but I thought the nut needed to be full height with the cuts in the locking area so I didn't buy them!
I couldn't get anyone to say differently so I kept looking.
Thanks again
